A new Job for Andrew

Andrew had always wanted to work with children. Whist at college he worked with disabled children and loved every minute of it.

Joining the Project Search programme in Bristol gave Andrew the opportunity to try a number of different jobs but he found he enjoyed care work and working with children the most satisfying.

When he left Project search he looked for jobs in care because he thought it easier to get a job with adults than with children. He went for a few interviews but was unsuccessful.

With support from his Job Coach, Andrew applied for a job as a School Meals Supervisory Assistant with Knowle West Children's centre. His skills and experience matched the type of person they were looking for.

He had an interview and was successful. Now he works with 2 year old children 10 hours per week. Although part time (for now) Andrew is delighted.

He sets out the dining room, helps to serve lunch and works directly with the children playing games.

After the first week Andrew said ‘it feels good'. His managers said they were really happy that he was working at the school and that they picked the right person for the job.

Andrew is really happy doing his job, he just wishes it were more hours!
